Glossary
Four terms decide whether buyers and sellers find you. Here is what each one means, in plain language, with the parts that matter for real estate agents.
- Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)Answer Engine Optimization, or AEO, is the practice of structuring your online presence so answer engines recommend you directly. Instead of competing for a blue link, you are competing to be named inside the answer that ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews returns. For real estate agents, AEO means your profile, your reviews, and your written answers all say the same thing.
- Local SEOLocal SEO is the practice of optimizing your online presence so you appear in search results for a specific geographic market. For real estate agents, that means ranking in the Google map pack, in local organic results, and in directory listings for the cities and neighborhoods you serve. It is the foundation everything else in local visibility sits on.
- Google Business Profile OptimizationGoogle Business Profile optimization is the complete setup and ongoing maintenance of the free business listing Google shows in maps and local results. For agents it covers categories, services, description, photos, reviews, questions, and weekly posts. It is the single highest-leverage visibility asset an agent owns, because both Google and AI engines read it.
- Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)Generative Engine Optimization, or GEO, is the practice of shaping your content so generative AI systems can retrieve it, quote it, and attribute it to you. Where AEO focuses on becoming the recommended answer, GEO focuses on how your content is written, chunked, and structured so a generative model can use it cleanly.
